Welcome to my Ecuadorian Gap Year!

A Quick Trip to Baños.

On a quiet Saturday, my family began what would be a six-hour car ride to Baños, Ecuador. Situated at the entrance to the Amazon directly below Volcan Tungurahua Baños is a beautiful town reminiscent of a small Hawaii. I obtained permission from Global Citizen Year to go there after assessing the state of the Volcano, which has been in an eruptive phase since 1999. Below are my two favorites from Baños itself.

Tena, Napo, Ecuador

Taken from atop the tower of a suspension bridge spanning the river which divides Tena in two; this photo shows the western side of the city. The tower was accessed legally.

Lake Cuicocha, Imbabura, Ecuador

Taken from three hours into the arduous hike, this photo depicts Cuicocho with the "two married volcanos." On the left is Cotacachi, the wife of Imbabura in the back.

My community celebrating Dia de Los Difuntos. The exchange of food until everyone had a full lunch made me feel the warmth of this holiday.

The view from my morning walk to school. On the left is Cotacatchi, the right is Imbabura. When the two mountains are visible, we like to say its good luck.

Mindo, Pichincha, Ecuador

Por la última taller de GCY nos fuimos a la selva; la valle de Mindo es un lugar adonde hay un gran biodiversidad de plantas, insectos, y animales. Nos pasamos los noches en la ciudad y los dias en la selva, a aprender sobre la gente, sus luchas, y la naturaleza. La selva era hermosa y a pasar tiempo con mis amigos me hizo apreciar nuestras tiempo juntos.
